CIFT to collaborate with Norway for fuel transition in seafood sector

The Kochi centered ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technological innovation (CIFT) has been awarded a challenge on Long term Refrigeration in India for spearheading the fuel transition in seafood sector.

The challenge named ‘Indee+’ assumes importance primarily at a time when the desire for transition from present higher carbon discharging fuel parts to zero carbon emission is on the rise and with the newest international norms are in favour of it.

It is an umbrella challenge covering various committed techniques supporting the Indian refrigeration and air conditioning sector in the transition in the direction of cleaner and eco-friendly technologies. It is coordinated by Norwegian University of Science and Technological innovation (NTNU) and the Indian associates are CIFT, Kochi, IIT Chennai, BITS, Pilani, and IISc Bengaluru.

twenty sixth International Climate Meeting

In the seafood sector, the challenge aims to advertise CO2 centered refrigeration and heating units and stage out the present-day refrigerants with purely natural, cleanse and harmless refrigerants. This will hence be the Indian fisheries sector’s commitment in the direction of obtaining net zero carbon emission by 2070 as pledged by the Key Minister at the twenty sixth International Climate Meeting in Glasgow.

A two-day workshop on “Future Refrigeration India” was held at CIFT which was resolved by the institute director Ravishankar CN.

The workshop highlighted the implication of weather improve to the culture and adaptation of scientific strategies and investigate to protect against international warming and ozone depletion. In the workshop, a sensitization plan was also organized for the stakeholders on the set up of carbon-dioxide centered cleanse refrigeration units with specific concentrate on cooling and heating specifications in seafood industries and fishing vessels.
