ICRISAT to help Odisha tribals manage natural resources

The Odisha Governing administration has roped in the Worldwide Crops Investigate Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to support tribals deal with organic methods effectively.

The districts coated beneath the programme are Sundargarh, Mayurbhanj, Debagarh, Kendujhar, Angul, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Raygada, Gajpati, Ganjam and Malkangiri.

The collaboration is a portion of Odisha’s Significantly Susceptible Tribal Groups Empowerment and Livelihoods Enhancement Programme (OPELIP), funded by the United Nation’s Worldwide Fund for Agricultural Advancement (IFAD).

The ICRISAT will support the communities create rainwater harvesting structures and established up gauging stations to file rainfall, run-off and other hydrological parameters in 4 districts where jhum or ‘shifting cultivation’ are practised.
